Concerning the Office of Elijah and the Son of David in the Last Days

1 Verily, thus saith the Lord thy God and thy Redeemer, unto my servant New Name:

2 Hearken unto my voice concerning the office of Elijah, which is beneath that of a Messiah, yet is great in authority. Behold, it is the same as the office of the Holy Ghost.

3 For it is written that John the Baptizer was filled with the Holy Ghost from the womb; yea, even from the womb was he filled with the spirit of Elijah.

4 And again, it is written that the office of Elijah is given unto those who receive the fulness of the priesthood.

5 And these are they who possess the keys to bind and to loose whatsoever they will on earth and in heaven.

6 For by the Holy Spirit of Promise are such ordinances sealed; and by the indwelling thereof are they sanctified unto power.

7 Now concerning the servant David of the last days:

8 It was declared by my prophet Joseph Smith, that a man should be raised up from the loins of David in the latter days—

9 Even one who should receive the fulness of the priesthood, and the spirit and power of Elijah.

10 This is he who holdeth the Key of David—he that shutteth and no man openeth, and openeth and no man shutteth.

11 Yea, even the Root of Jesse, who is the rightful heir to the priesthood, and who sitteth enthroned before the seven Spirits of God.

12 And these seven Spirits are the seven angels of the seven churches, even the heads of the seven dispensations.

13 And this is the reason the office is called the office of an Elijah:

14 For this David is the Elijah who shall come before the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

15 And it is called the office of the Holy Ghost, because they who bear it are filled with my Spirit, and become my mouthpiece and my witness upon the earth.

16 And again it is written: these seven angels are the seven Spirits of God, and they stand before the throne of the Root of David—

17 Even the Lion of the tribe of Judah, who is my Beloved Son, even as I was the Beloved Son of my Father.

18 I am in Him, even as the Father was in Me; and the Father and I are one.

19 And the seven Spirits of the seven dispensations do operate by the power of my Holy Spirit;

20 For these are the seven candlesticks of the menorah that stand before the throne of God—

21 And my Son, even the Eighth, is the Head of them all.
